My Backyard.

Typical of the roads we travelled on, and I sure do miss this countryside.

Swimming with the Crocs.

These guys were enjoying a swim in the crocodile infested river during the wet season. Not sure whether they were brave or just plain stupid.....

Pre Storm.

I was fascinated by this cloud formation prior to a storm in the wet season. This was captured in the Northern Territory near the Tanami Desert.

Tanami Desert Sunrise.

Just 600 kilometres to the west, the sun is rising over the Indian Ocean.

Hornets.

This photo is one of the first close ups I took.

Wet Season Dawn

The wet roads, and the clouds were a common sight in the Northern Territory wet season. It was also gloriously warm!

Lemonfly

Main Road.

This was the main road to one of the communities during the wet season in the Northern Territory. We were cut off by road for almost five months. There was an air service three times a week, that is, if there were no storms about and that the airstrip wasn't under water.

Outback Sunset.

This is from my backyard in the Northern Territory, Australia.

A Nice Cold Beer.

I found these frogs sitting above the beer 'fridge in a pub in the middle of the Australian outback.

W.A Sunset.

A view from our motel in a place called Kunanarra in Western Australia. Just after this was taken, the sky turned black with thousands of bats on their nightly raid.

Back To Basics.

These Aboriginal kids had come to see a relative being evacuated out by the Flying Doctor Service. It was very common to see the kids running around naked, but they were always clothed when they visited us or the shop.

Siblings

These kids are from an Aboriginal community close to the Tanami Desert.

Late Snow.

This is a few kilometres down the road from the previous photo. This was Oct/Nov, and a new lot of snow had been dumped overnight.

The Wine Industry.

A lot of farms in this area are being turned into vineyards. I think it's a blot on the landscape, but, I'm not the poor farmer trying to make a living!

Low Tide

Another from Cossack in Western Australia.

Early Morning

The lovely red hills of Western Australia.

Flying Doctor Service

The kids on the communities use to love watching the plane come in, the look on their faces if it was the first time they'd seen one was priceless.

All Weather Taxi

A great way to keep your feet dry in the wet season, on a remote Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Country Church

There are a lot of these beautiful restored churches to be found in rural NZ. Many are still frequented every Sunday.

Brolgas

These are majestic, elegant birds! They perform a wonderful, slow motion mating dance at the beginning of each wet season.

Community Kids

These two Aboriginal girls got dressed up to visit us in the Health Clinic in a remote outback community in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Palm Reflection

We'd stopped for a coffee, when this very large, shiny stainless steel semi trailer pulled up across the road....... this is a palm tree reflected on the tank.

Fairy Web

I managed to capture this thistledown caught in a web, between gusts of wind! and there's been non stop wind for weeks now....... sigh.

Easter

These kids are from a very remote Aboriginal Community in the outback of The Northern Territory, where I had the pleasure of working as a nurse. They made these hats at school and then paraded them around the community.

Fortescue River, WA.

Another from Western Australia.

Early Morning

Cossack Harbour in Western Australia.

Peach Blossom

Lazy Sunday

New Life

A Punga (fern) frond about to open. They do look a bit like caterpillars from a distance.

Wairau River

This is another from the Marlborough region, NZ. The Wairau River, towards the end of winter.

Autumn Grapes

The grape vines showing off their beautiful autumn colours, along the Wairau Valley in the Marlborough region, NZ.

It's all Mine

A delightful baby sparrow, he posed really nicely for this shot, not at all afraid.

Bug Eat Bug

Lunch time in my backyard a few days ago.

Monarch Caterpillar

Not alot I can say about this one......

Socialising.

I was quite intrigued by these kiwi sheep sheltering from the cold wind and drizzle. They look like they're having some kind of conversation.

Ice

This shot is one of my favourites. This is ice on a puddle at the side of the road.

Lemon Blossom

It was a lot of fun chasing these bees around the lemon tree, trying to capture one in the blossom.

Sea Mist

This taken on the way to Kaikoura, which is at the top end of the Sth. Island, NZ. It was fairly early in the morning with a stiff breeze blowing, hence the mist across the hills.

The Humble Bumble

I had fun chasing the bumble bees round the yard, they don't stay still for long. Managed to capture this fella on the lemon blossom, I just love all the bits of pollen on him.

Wet Season

This is in a very remote area of the Northern Territory, a small Aboriginal community where I worked as a nurse.
The causeway spans a dry riverbed which becomes a river in the wet season (summer) and the waist-high handrails are underwater for days on end.
And that water contains lots of big crocodiles and snakes and leeches --not the ideal place to go swimming, hot as it is.....

Plate Reflection

Another bored moment. This is the sun shining through the window onto a dinner plate in a cabinet.

Big Lump

I do love seals! There's a large colony on the way to Kaikoura, again, at the top of the Sth Island. Lovely to see them in their natural habitat, spent ages just watching them.

Grape Tendril

I had fun with this one, trying to line all the coils up.
