Both have their merits - strong vertical and horizontal lines. These settle the picture and make it easy on the eye - it seems to add up in the mind. The addition of the gate makes for a busier picture, but keeps with the vertical line and the angle fits.
Basically, I like both. The photo with the gate seems more painting like. Lovely shadow on the gate.

With - much better composition and balance.
With the gate appeals more, but then the other one is smaller and so it's at a disadvantage.
With. It feels like there's more layers - foreground, middleground, background. The with gate pics looks like something I can step into.
